Give Real Meaning To Your Daily Work
I have found this to be so true that it led me to the importance of having a strategy / goal to guide me in my day to day activities but with a long term focus. This strategy is helpful as a supplement to my weekly goals or tasks. It is a strategy to guide me over the longer term to increase motivation and become much more efficient. Let me explain how it works. In my past jobs I have found that my work comes in waves. When a heavy wave of work is upon me I have little time for anything else.
It is important at these times to be able to work at peak efficiency to get results as quickly as possible. After heavy peak work times I feel it is good to slow down and have some relaxation. This could lead to me goofing off if I did not stay motivated. Now this is where my longer term strategy comes in to increase motivation. My strategy was to find ways to even out my workflow. This sounds simple but it is not. I believe most jobs have peak times with heavy workloads mainly because of tight deadlines. This is never going to change but what can be changed is how I work in the quiet times. During the quiet times was my chance to build my efficiency skills that allowed me to work faster in times of a looming deadline without added stress or pressure. This was a key part of my long term strategy.
Try building some long range goals / strategies for yourself to increase motivation and let me know if they help you become more efficient.
